Bushbuckridge Mayor Milton Morema appeared in Acornhoek’s Magistrate Court on 27 May 2008 to stand trial for his involvement in an alleged double murder. Approximately 500 of his supporters gathered outside the court building. When the magistrate said the case looked like a witch-hunt and struck it off the roll, dancing and singing broke out in full force. A few weeks later, community members gathered on the Acornhoek streets to show their disapproval.
